Definitions for “family” include phrases like, “the basic unit of society” and “a fundamental social group.” Further, by modern definiton, a family may be “traditional” consisting of 2 parents, or it may be arranged any number of different ways that are considered equally valid by society. Read about one of the most recent ways family is being legally redefined here .
Family is indeed the basic building block of society. Redefining this building block is in many ways breaking it down, and society along with it. Consider the following ways families are breaking down:
Structurally- 2 parents no longer the norm
Definitively- marriage being removed from the equation
Legally- able to be flexibly interpreted by human arbiters
Biblically- no universal, spiritual truth that rules, no God who cares
There is hope for the family because it is God’s creation and intended mode of raising children and building society. All families don’t look alike, but there is a definite answer to the question, “What is it and what is it good for?”
God puts the lonely in families (Ps. 68:6). More to come…
